About Big Blue Foundation
“Movies touch our hearts and awaken our vision, and change the way we see things.”
Martin Scorsese
Big Blue Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit film production organization dedicated to creating films for the greater good. Founded in 1992, our Foundation exists to harness the power of cinematic storytelling as a force for environmental and social change.
Our core principle is a belief that film is not only a medium of entertainment, but a catalyst for awareness, empathy, and action. Through character-driven narratives and visually compelling work, we seek to illuminate the human dimensions of complex issues—bridging the gap between abstract challenges and lived experience. Our films are designed to engage audiences emotionally and intellectually, fostering a deeper understanding of the systems, environments, and communities that shape our shared world.
Our approach is grounded in the idea that meaningful change begins with connection: to place, to one another, and to the stories that define us. By centering real people and authentic experiences, Big Blue Foundation aims to elevate underrepresented perspectives, surface overlooked realities, and contribute to a more informed and engaged public.
Across all of its work, the Foundation is guided by a simple conviction: that storytelling, when pursued with clarity, integrity, and purpose, can help shape a more connected, responsible, and humane world.
